Air Canada’s non-stop Vancouver – Bangkok

On December 1, 2023, Air Canada started a new non-stop route from: Vancouver, Canada, to Bangkok, Thailand.

What were my thoughts and experiences flying with Air Canada?

First here’s a little bit of back story. We live on the west coast of Canada in Vancouver, BC, and do enjoy the mild winters here. Unlike the rest of Canada most years Vancouver does not get much snow. Of course the mountains surrounding the city do get covered in snow, but the lower elevations of the Lower Mainland generally not so much. We do get lots of cloudy grey skies and RAIN! Lots and lots of rain. It can get depressing at times to have weeks on end of dark grey skies and rain every day.

To get away from the gloom we have started to travel to South-East Asia and enjoy the tropical sun and heat. So far we’ve really enjoyed travel to Thailand and are now on our third trip to Thailand. This year we flew direct from Vancouver to Bangkok with Air Canada on their newest non-stop destination to Thailand.

It is scheduled as a 16:30 minute flight from Vancouver, Canada to Bangkok, Thailand, and the return flight is 13:15. Our flight must have had a tail wind because we arrived thirty minutes early!

I was a little concerned about sitting in an airplane for that length of time(16:30)  but it actually was fine. The flight leaves very late in the evening and provided us with a hot meal shortly after takeoff. The meal was very good and soon after we ate we were both ready to get some sleep. Sleeping on an airplane in economy class can be difficult. However, we did manage to get 5-6 hours of rest.

Our seats were comfortable and had plenty of leg room. There are entertainment units at each seat with lots of movies or tv shows to watch. You can also play games or listen to music on them. If you like, you can turn on the moving map and track your progress to your destination. They did hand out free headphones to use but we had brought our own. There is also a USB port to charge devices, and 110v power to plug in a laptop! That was a nice touch.

The seats reclined a little more than what I have normally experienced, so with the extra leg room and all the entertainment options it was a very pleasant flight.

After many hours of flying, we started our decent into Bangkok early and arrived over 30 minutes ahead of schedule. I didn’t expect that, as usually flying westbound there always seems to be a head wind. It was nice to arrive early and to get out and enjoy the tropical heat in Thailand!

So to summarize Air Canada’s newest non-stop direct flight from Vancouver to Bangkok was a very enjoyable, and convenient flight that allowed to get to Bangkok quickly and start our vacation that much sooner.
